Misal Pav!

Hello, everyone
Today I have tried misal pav. This is a Marathi cuisine. This dish is really yummy and spicy, and you can have it at breakfast. So let’s proceed to the recipe.

  • Misal Masala

INGREDIENTS

Desiccated coconut: 3/4 bowl
Coriander seeds: 2 tablespoons
Cumin seeds: 1 tablespoon
Ginger: 2 inches (roughly chopped)
Sesame seeds (Til): 2 tablespoons
Poppy seeds (Khas Khas): 2 teaspoons
Black pepper: 6-7
Cinnamon stick (Dalchini): 2 inches
Salt: 1 teaspoon
Dry mango powder: 1 tablespoon
Red chilly powder: 3 teaspoons
Fenugreek seeds (Methi): 1/4 teaspoon

RECIPE

  1. Put a pan on medium flame.
  2. Now add desiccated coconut, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, ginger, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, black pepper, and cinnamon stick in the pan according to the ingredients and continuously dry roast them for 5 minutes.
  3. Turn off the flame and take them in a mixer jar and add salt, dry mango powder, red chilly powder, and fenugreek seeds.
  4. Now with the help of mixer make a fine powder.
  5. You can save it at room temperature.
  6. Misal masala is ready!

 

  • Misal

INGREDIENTS

Moth beans sprouts: 3 cup
Oil: 5 tablespoons
Ginger: 2 inches (roughly chopped)
Garlic: 4-5
Onion: 1 (finely chopped)
Desiccated coconut: 1/4 cup
Tomato: 2 (finely chopped)
Mustard seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
Curry leaves: 7-8
Asafoetida (heeng): 1/4 teaspoon
Turmeric powder: 1 tablespoon
Coriander powder: 1 tablespoon
Red chilly powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Garam masala powder: 1 tablespoon
Misal masala powder: 2 tablespoons
Salt: According to taste
Water: For cooking
(If you like little sweet taste then you can add a small piece of jaggery)

FOR GARNISHING

Onion: 1 (finely chopped)
Coriander leaves: finely chopped
Farsan (Type of namkeen which is mainly used for misal pav)

RECIPE

  1. In a pressure cooker take moth beans sprouts, 1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder, 1/2 tablespoon salt, and 4 cups water.
  2. Cover the lid and put it on medium flame and cook till one whistle.
  3. After one whistle turns off the flame.
  4. In parallel, put a pan on medium flame and pour 2 tablespoons oil in it and let the oil heat.
  5. Add chopped onion, ginger, and garlic, and saute them till they turn aromatic.
  6. Now add desiccated coconut and fry it well, now add tomato and saute all the ingredients for 1 minute.
  7. Turn off the flame and take all saute ingredients in a mixer jar and make a smooth paste with the help of a mixer.
  8. Again put a pan on medium flame and add 3 tablespoon oil and let the oil heat.
  9. When oil got heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves according to the ingredients. Saute them and let them splutter.
  10. Add that smooth paste and fry it well.
  11. Now add red chilly powder, 1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and misal masala powder and saute them well till oil releases.
  12. Add jaggery (optional) and cooked moth beans sprouts and mix them well.
  13. Now add salt and 5 cups of water and mix it.
  14. Mix them, cover it, and let it boil for 10m minutes on medium flame.
  15. After 10 minutes you will see that oil gets separated.
  16. Now turns off the flame.
  17. Misal is ready!

FOR SERVING

  1. Take misal in a bowl.
  2. Garnish it with 1 tablespoon chopped onion, chopped coriander leaves, and farsan.
  3. In a plate, put that bowl, pav, chopped onion, and lemon.
  4. While eating mix lemon juice and enjoy it.
