Paani Puri!

Today I have tried paani puri. This is a famous Indian street food, which is mouthwatering and has a combination of spicy and tangy flavor. I am sure that this is everyone’s favorite. So, let’s proceed to this really yummy and easy recipe.

  • For Paani

INGREDIENTS

Mint leaves: 1/2 cup
Coriander leaves: 1/2 cup
Green chilies: 2 (small sized)
Ginger: 1/2 teaspoon (chopped)
Tamarind: 2 tablespoons (tightly packed and soaked in water for 30 minutes)
Pani puri masala: 1 tablespoon (easily available in the market)
Chaat masala powder: 1 tablespoon
Roasted cumin powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Black salt: 1/2 tablespoon
Red chili powder: 1/4 teaspoon
Salt: according to taste
Water: 4 cups or add more water as per the consistency you want

RECIPE

  1. Rinse mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chilies, and ginger in water and take them in a mixture jar according to the ingredients.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons water and grind it until it turns into a smooth paste.
  3. Transfer this mixture to a large bowl and add water, chaat masala powder, paani puri masala, roasted cumin powder, black salt, red chili powder, and salt.
  4. Now mash the tamarind in 1 cup water and remove all the seeds and unwanted elements, and add to the water mixture, but do not add much water.
    (If you don’t want to use tamarind, you can use 2 full tablespoons lemon juice.)
  5. Paani is ready!

 

  • For Masala

INGREDIENTS

Potato: 4 (medium sized)
White peas (vatana): 2 cups (soaked overnight)
Onion: 2 (medium sized and finely chopped)
Green chilies: 4 (finely chopped)
Chaat masala powder: 1 tablespoon
Roasted cumin powder: 1 teaspoon
Salt: according to taste
Coriander leaves: 2 tablespoons (finely chopped)

RECIPE

  1. Rinse potatoes and overnight soaked white peas, and boil them in a pressure cooker till 6 whistles.
  2. After some time, open the lid and check that both the ingredients have boiled well or not, If not then boil for some more time.
  3. Now peel the potatoes and mash white peas and potatoes in a big bowl.
  4. Add chopped onion, chopped green chilies, chaat masala powder, roasted cumin powder, salt, and chopped coriander leaves according to the ingredients.
  5. Mix them well.
  6. Masala is ready!

 

  • For Puri

INGREDIENTS

Semolina: 2 cups
White flour: 2 tablespoons
Baking soda: 1/2 teaspoon
Water: to kneading the dough
Salt: according to taste
Oil: for deep fry the puri

RECIPE

  1. Take semolina, white flour, baking soda, and salt in a big bowl and mix them well.
  2. Now add water and knead a semi-stiff dough.
  3. Now cover it with a muslin cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Knead the dough properly and make medium sized balls.
  5. Place each ball on a flat surface and make a thin enough roti with the help of wheat or white flour.
  6. In parallel, put a pan on medium flame and pour oil in it, and let the oil heat enough to deep fry the puri.
  7. Now with the help of cookie cutter, cut the prepared roti in small equal sized circles.
  8. Keep doing this until the dough is over and you get enough puri to fry.
  9. Now deep fry the puri and slightly press them with the help of a perforated spoon till it puffs up and turns golden brown from both sides.
  10. Place them on a plate and let them cool.
  11. Puri is ready!

Some More Tips

  1. While eating pani puri you can add boondi in the pani to make it tastier but it’s optional.
  2. You can add thin sev in masala while eating.
  3. You can also add tamarind chutney and green chutney with your pani puri.
